Dear Vob,
I was sitting listening to the radio and heard the advertisement
"Home for the Holidays" and thought it was a great gesture
by Voice of Barbados to reunite love ones. Then I started thinking
that I should join the competition and hope my lucky star would
shine on me.
Here goes, my mother left Barbados for Canada in 1983, when I was
thirteen years old and my two brothers fifteen and eighteen respectively
in age. She came home Christmas of the following year 1984, as my
stepfather had financed her a trip. That was the last time we saw
our mother in Barbados.
After I finished school and started working, I took a trip to Canada
in 1991 to see her. It was a glorious occasion for me to see my
mother again. I later visited her again in the summer of 2002. My
brothers were not that fortunate, as they have never seen her since
she left Barbados in 1984.
My grandmother who took care of me died and she wanted to come
to the funeral but was unable to due to financial hardship she said,
"If she won the lottery or received a miracle she would have
been able to attend the funeral." With neither of those was
she blessed.
I am hoping and praying that this letter might be her miracle to
bring home my mother and reunite her with her family once again.
