60 Per Cent Off Soon
GOVERNMENT is poised to remove the nettlesome 60 per cent duty on extra-regional imports imposed last November to protect manufacturing, but which has been a thorn to retailers.
Prime Minister Owen Arthur indicated yesterday he was considering either a one-time removal or a phased return to the trade liberalisation process of pre-September 11 “as soon as practicable”.

Householders do not have to fear that Cable & Wireless will increase telephone rates because of an application before the Fair Trading Commission (FTC). Yesterday, the FTC began hearing a property and depreciation application on behalf of the utility company and its lead counsel Patterson Cheltenham, QC, gave that assurance.
